Sustainability for the arts and the environment. The MFTA Education Center offers high-impact workshops and classes focused on Creative Reuse: making art with readily available materials from our ever-changing warehouse inventory. The Center hosts programs in our classrooms, organizes exhibitions at the MFTA Gallery, and sends teaching artists into the community to share the art of reuse.

A program of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs with support from the Department of Education and Friends of Materials for the Arts, in 2018, MFTA collected 1.7 million pounds of reusable materials from businesses and individuals across the five boroughs. These items were made available, free of charge, to nonprofits with arts programming as well as New York City public schools and City agencies.
